Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) verification is offered Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In Windsor, residents are provided VIN verification services at no charge. Non-residents will be charged $15, cash or check only. Proof of residency is required.
You will need to bring the vehicle along with paperwork displaying the VIN number such as the vehicle title, previous registration, bill of sale, insurance card, or other official paperwork to the police department in order for an officer to verify the VIN.
VIN verification is generally required when attempting to register a vehicle with an out-of-state title or if the vehicle hasn’t been registered for long periods of time. The State of Colorado requires a certified inspector or law enforcement agency to inspect the vehicle identification number (VIN) on the vehicle to ensure it matches the vehicle’s registration or title document.
